Although not strictly Essex Churches, the London 5: East book does contain details of many churches which now fall within the London borough, yet are still considered as being in Essex due to the Chelmsford Diocese's continued responsibility.

 

Such areas as Rainham, Dagenham, Romford, Chingford, Walthamstow, Plaistow and West Ham are included. In actual fact, there is more of the old Essex area covered than London itself.

 

The buildings of East London reflect a chequered history of economic change, social need, urban renewal and conservation.
