EXTERNAL IMAGES

St Mary, Mundon Church - This is probably the most well-known view of St Mary - the first view seen having approached down Vicarage Lane, and the last fifty yards of mud track. Sept 2009 - Mundon St Mary recently re-opened, following several years of essential maintenance to make the church safe once again. This entry for Mundon contains several new images from that time. These are the larger images.

St Mary, Mundon Church - Brick east end of early C18 chancel.(Not the brick 'west' end, as was stated on my old website! - hopefully no-one noticed - or maybe you were all too polite to say!)

St Mary, Mundon Church - The south wall here shows the blocked S chapel archway, and the brick window, both dated early C16.

St Mary, Mundon Church - The north porch. My lovely fiancée, Julie is hiding just around the corner! Hewett (Church Carpentry, Phillimore 1974) says of the porch, "the finest example of its kind seen in the county". It is dated c.1600.

INTERNAL IMAGES

St Mary, Mundon Church - Looking East, towards the chancel. This is perhaps one of the most encompassing views of this church. The dimly lit interior really does give one a feeling of having stepped back in time.

St Mary, Mundon Church - The chancel. Currently (July 2005), the church is closed to all visitors, due to the movements of the foundations.Even when I visited, the most precarious feeling place to be standing was in the chancel. Some of the cracks in the roof were looking rather monstrous. Despite feeling a little unsafe though, Mundon St Mary just draws you in further and further.
